CMS hosted a special Veterans Day program on November 10. CMS welcomed over 45 veterans with over 200 years of active service combined. Our local heroes enjoyed a breakfast and program that featured our CMS Harmonix, CMS choir, CMS band, and Patriot Pen essay finalists.
This year our special CMS Veteran Honoree was Kim White. Kim was honored for her service to our country as well as continued service to our community.
Dale Downs of the VFW Local 1592 was recognized with the creation of the Dale Downs Service Award to be given annually to an 8th grader who displays service to community. Dale has served our country and community for over 25 years with his work with CMS students.

Charleston Middle School has a new monthly award this year called “Going the Extra Mile.” Any staff member can nominate a colleague who has done extraordinary things and has gone above what is expected of them on a day-to-day basis. This month's recipients are Brittany Clough, 8th grade Math teacher and Jill Shrader, 8th grade LBS 1 teacher.
Do you like chess or want to learn how to play? Any 7th or 8th grade student who has an interest in chess, there will be an informational meeting Wednesday, November 15th during EPIC period.
Charleston Middle School is currently having a wrapping paper drive for One Stop Community Christmas. We will be collecting wrapping paper until November 30th.
The Student Leadership Council at CMS will be collecting socks and blankets the week of November 13-17, to donate to the Haven House in Mattoon.
