Meet Our Principals!

Mrs. Abigail Mahaffey is from Northbrook, IL where she attended school K-12. She then came to Charleston to attend EIU from 2009-2013. While at EIU, Mrs. Mahaffey was a member of the track and field team focusing on pole vault. She student taught at Mattoon Middle School and then accepted a job at Charleston Middle School teaching 8th grade reading and language arts. She taught at CMS for 6 years. While teaching at CMS, Mrs. Mahaffey coached middle school cheerleading, was the student council sponsor and coached high school boys' track.

During her time teaching at CMS, Mrs. Mahaffey completed her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education while earning a Reading Endorsement as well. Once she completed this degree, she was fortunate enough to begin her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, which she finished in 2020. Mrs. Mahaffey served as the Carl Sandburg Assistant Principal from 2020-2022.

Mrs. Beth Anne Morgan was born and raised in Flora, IL. She earned her Associate's Degree from Lakeland College and then her Bachelor's Degree in Education at EIU. Mrs. Morgan taught one year at Charleston High School before moving to Charleston Middle School where she taught math for 15 years. During this time, Mrs. Morgan completed her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at EIU. She spent time coaching middle school and high school basketball, softball, and volleyball.

Mrs. Morgan is married to a Charleston graduate, Nick, and they have four children, Audrey, Wyatt, Jack, and Piper.
